First professional contract for 19-year-old keeper from the Wolfsburg offspring
SV Darmstadt 98 is strengthening in the goal: Benedikt Börner changes from the youngsters of VfL Wolfsburg to the lilies and has signed his first professional contract . The 19-year-old goalkeeper comes from Munich and is said to complement the existing team of goalkeepers.
Sports director Paul Fernie sees Börner a promising new addition:
"We are very happy to be able to greet a highly talented and ambitious goalkeeper with Benedikt. He has been active at the highest level in recent years and is now ready to take the step into men's football. We will give him the necessary time for his development and are convinced that he will enrich our goalkeeper team with his skills."
Börner himself is looking forward to the new challenge:
"It is a nice feeling to have signed my first professional contract with Darmstadt 98 of all places. In the conversations, I felt that the lilies are the right club to develop myself as best as possible. I can't wait to start preparing with my teammates and the coaching team."
From Ingolstadt via Wolfsburg to Böllenfalltor
Börner initially went through the youth of FC Ingolstadt before moving to the youth department of VfL Wolfsburg . In the 2023/24 season he stood twelve times for the U19 of the wolves in the A-Junior Bundesliga in goal. He also played three missions in the Juniors' DFB Cup and also guarded the goal of the Lower Saxony 1-2 against Bayern Munich in the U19 round of 16
With his commitment, the lilies are again relying on young talents with development potential - a strategy that has recently been used several times.
