The offer is aimed at people who are continuing to live with children or young people after the death of their partner – it starts on October 21st
The bereavement support service of the Protestant Deanery of Darmstadt is launching a new group program on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.It is aimed at people who have lost their partner to death and are continuing their lives with children or young people.
The first meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the bereavement counseling office at Flotowstraße 29 in Darmstadt. The group will then meet once a month on a Wednesday evening. The service is non-denominational and free of charge.
Sharing experiences about grief and everyday family life
The group aims to provide a space for exchange with people in a similar life situation. This includes addressing one's own grief, coping with the grief of children, and the changes that loss brings to daily life.
Possible topics include changing roles and relationships within the family, how to handle birthdays, Christmas, or anniversaries of death, as well as memories and rituals. Overwhelm, stress and exhaustion, self-care, and coping with grief in professional life can also be addressed. Furthermore, there will be time for participants' personal questions.
Introductory meeting before participation
Before joining the group, a personal introductory meeting is scheduled. This meeting aims to determine together whether the program can provide suitable support in the individual's specific situation.
The bereavement group is accompanied by Regula Kemper, bereavement counselor in the Protestant Deanery of Darmstadt and social pedagogue, as well as Eva-Maria Loggen, pastor in the deanery, systemic psychotherapist and consultant with experience in bereavement support.
