Barbara Klemm, Christian Kramarz and Philipp Gutbrod speak at the Kennedy House – anniversary exhibition starts on September 26
To mark its 75th anniversary, the Darmstadt Photo Club is hosting a lecture series on photography at the Kennedy House in Darmstadt. The three evening lectures will cover topics such as the legal changes brought about by digital images and deepfakes, street photography in everyday journalism, and photography in the art market. The dates are October 22nd and 29th, and November 12th, 2026, all at 7 pm.
The lecture series complements the photo club's anniversary program. The exhibition "City Faces" will open at the Justus Liebig House on Saturday, September 26.
Lecture series on photography starts with image rights and deepfakes
The series kicks off on Thursday, October 22nd, with a presentation by lawyer Christian Kramarz entitled "From Analog Negative to Digital Deepfake – A Legal Journey Through Time".
Kramarz explores how the legal treatment of photography has changed from analog film to images created using algorithms and neural networks. This includes issues such as artistic freedom and the question of who owns an image that has never passed through a lens.
On Thursday, October 29, photographer Barbara Klemm will speak about "Street photography in everyday journalistic practice." She will use her journalistic work for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as a starting point for her presentation on street photography.
The series concludes on Thursday, November 12, with a presentation by Dr. Philipp Gutbrod, Cultural Affairs Officer of the City of Darmstadt and Site Manager of the Mathildenhöhe World Heritage Site. His lecture, "Photography and the Art Market – Experiences, Discoveries and Expertise," examines the role of photography in the art market.
“City Faces” for the 75th anniversary
To mark its anniversary, the photography club is also presenting the exhibition "City Faces." The large-format photographs depict people from Darmstadt, predominantly in their typical surroundings. With this exhibition, the members focus their photographic attention on the people who shape the face of the city.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, September 26, at 4 p.m. in the Justus Liebig House. Mayor Hanno Benz will give a welcoming address. Darmstadt singer Petra Bassus and saxophonist, composer, and music educator Anke Schimpf will perform at the opening.
The exhibition runs until October 15, 2026.
