The 1st Police Precinct in Darmstadt is offering bicycle coding on Monday, August 31, 2026. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., bicycle owners can have their bikes coded at Bismarckstraße 16. The police recommend coding as an additional measure to protect against bicycle theft.
According to the police, a sturdy bicycle lock and proper locking remain crucial for theft prevention. A GPS tracker can also offer additional protection. Furthermore, bicycle coding makes it easier to return a recovered bicycle to its owner.
These documents are required
To ensure a smooth process, the police request that you have the necessary information about your bicycle ready. This includes the manufacturer, model, and frame number. For the coding process, you will also need to bring an identification document and proof of ownership.
Owners of e-bikes and pedelecs should also bring their battery key. To avoid waiting times, the police recommend removing attachments such as locks or containers from the frame before the appointment. Bicycles with carbon frames cannot be coded.
