After 81 competitive matches for Darmstadt 98, the central defender is moving to Turkish first division club Kocaelispor
SV Darmstadt 98 and Matej Maglica are parting ways after three years together. The 27-year-old central defender is moving to Turkish first division club Kocaelispor. The Croatian made a total of 81 competitive appearances for Darmstadt, scoring nine goals.
Maglica's departure from Böllenfalltor had been anticipated for several weeks. Now, the clubs involved have agreed on a transfer to Turkey.
"It had become clear in recent weeks that Matej would be leaving us during this transfer window. Thanks to the offer from Kocaelispor, we were now able to grant his wish to leave. We wish Matej every success in Turkey," explained Darmstadt sporting director Paul Fernie.
Maglica came from VfB Stuttgart in 2023
Maglica initially joined Darmstadt on loan from VfB Stuttgart in July 2023. In his first season at the Böllenfalltor stadium, the center-back made Bundesliga appearances for Darmstadt. After the loan expired, SV Darmstadt 98 and VfB Stuttgart agreed on a permanent transfer.
In total, Maglica played 26 Bundesliga matches, 48 matches in the 2nd Bundesliga and seven DFB-Pokal matches during his three years at SV Darmstadt 98. He scored nine goals in all competitions.
The Croatian will now continue his career in Turkey with Kocaelispor. SV Darmstadt 98 thanked Maglica for his commitment over the past three years and wished him all the best for his future career.
