Protection against theft through coding on May 20th
The South Hesse Police Headquarters is announcing a bicycle coding campaign in Darmstadt. The aim is to better protect bicycles from theft and to raise awareness among owners.
Date and location of the event
The coding will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The venue is the 1st Police Precinct at Bismarckstraße 16.
Why bicycle coding makes sense
In addition to a sturdy lock and proper bicycle securing, coding provides an extra layer of protection. This involves attaching a unique identifier to the bicycle, which facilitates identification in case of theft and acts as a deterrent.
Participants should take note of the following
The following information and documents are required for a smooth process:
- Personal data and information about the bicycle (manufacturer, type, frame number)
- Valid identification document
- Proof of ownership for the bicycle
- For e-bikes and pedelecs: battery key
It is also recommended to remove any attachments to the mid-frame, such as locks or brackets, beforehand. Carbon fiber bicycles cannot be coded.
Further dates available
Anyone who is unable to attend on May 20th can find information about further coding dates on the website of the Hessian police.
