Klimaaktiv presents exhibition until March 17th
The exhibition "Blooming Gardens: Tips for Insect-Friendly and Climate-Resilient Gardening" is on display at the Groß-Gerau City Library until Tuesday, March 17th. The exhibition is organized by the Klimaaktiv Groß-Gerau initiative in cooperation with the library.
The aim is to promote greater biodiversity and the removal of impervious surfaces. The initiative is committed to making urban spaces more livable and showcasing alternatives to gravel gardens.
Suggestions for natural gardening
The exhibition provides information on climate-adapted gardening, water storage, shading through plants, and the creation of green habitats for insects. Photo collages document planting projects in various streets of Groß-Gerau, as well as a sandarium at Albrecht-Dürer-Platz, which offers a habitat for ground-nesting wild bees.
Detailed watercolors illustrate the symbiotic relationships between native flowers and insects such as butterflies, wild bees, and bumblebees. Suitable wildflowers for gardens or balconies are also presented, along with tips on the proper planting of perennials.
An information sheet with tips for a natural and low-maintenance garden design is available to take away. Additionally, brochures from the German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) on wildflower beds and the garden as a habitat are available.
Suitable literature in the library
The city library team has compiled a selection of books on a thematically appropriate topic – from gardening guides and nature guides for families to literature on insects and biodiversity.
The exhibition can be viewed on the ground floor of the city library at Gernsheimer Straße 5. Opening hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 pm to 6 pm, Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm, and Fridays from 3 pm to 7 pm.
