City calls for caution - concentration of cyanobacteria has doubled
In the Prince of Hesse pit, a greatly increased concentration of cyanobacteria, colloquially called blue algae, was found in current water samples. According to the city administration of Darmstadt, the measured values now reach the “increased attention” of the Federal Environmental Office.
Doubling of the blue algae since Friday
Favored by continuing high temperatures and intensive sunlight, the blue -green algae infestation has doubled since Friday (June 27) until Monday (June 30). The city therefore appeals to all visitors to exercise special caution during a stay on the popular natural pool lake.
Current warnings are attached to the DLRG station and on additional signs around the lake. The city asks to take these clues seriously.
Health risk from blue algae
Blue algae can be harmful to health. When swallowing loaded water, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin irritation, mucosal inflammation or even shortness of breath threaten. Blue algae can be seen on a greenish-cloudy coloring of the water or on streaks on the surface.
Grüna -field minister Michael Kolmer explains: "The water quality is still closely monitored by the urban employees. If the situation exacerbates, we will immediately publish further information. I will ask all citizens to behave responsibly."
