Mayor Benz: "Another step for more participation at eye level"
The science city of Darmstadt has a new civic representative: the 35-year-old sociologist Ann-Christine Sparn-Wolf has started work in the Office for Communication. In the future, it will significantly help shape the further development and reorganization of the citizen participation in Darmstadt.
"With the occupation of this position, we have implemented another important step to modernize urban participation and align citizen seamstress," explains Mayor Hanno Benz. The integration of the office of civic representatives into the Office for Communication was a conscious signal to put the dialogue with the city society on new legs.
The aim is to make participation processes more transparent, more direct and more accessible - both on site and increasingly via digital platforms and social media. Existing formats have already been revised: “Whether on site” was further developed from the classic consultation hour model to a dialog-oriented town hall format. Citizens' surveys, such as recently in Wixhausen for tram connection, should also be used more and early in the future - ideally before political committees make decisions.
Reinforcement for the participation team
Ann-Christine Sparn-Wolf, together with the head of the Office for Communication, Frank Horneff, will promote the strategic development of citizen participation in Darmstadt. The selection process for the position of the deputy civic officers is currently underway, and an additional processing office is also planned.
The new civic representative lives with her family in the Eberstadt district.
