A journey full of impressions and encounters in the South Tyrolean twin town
From July 7th to 11th, 2025, the city partnership between the southern Hessian municipality and Kiens in South Tyrol all about the lived exchange: on a citizens' trip with around 40 participants - including Mayor Ralf Möller - the guests were able to collect unforgettable impressions that further deepened the connection between both cities.
Start in Merano and Mediterranean flair
The start of the trip was a trip to Merano , where the famous gardens of Trautttmansdorff Castle were first visited. With its thematically designed garden rooms and panoramic views, the extensive complex offered the right entry into the week. Then the participants explored the city of Merano individually - and enjoyed the southern flair in the streets and cafés.
Culinary and scenic highlights
Wednesday offered several highlights: First, a tour of the three battlements on the program. The participants received an insight into the traditional cheese production and were then able to taste regional specialties. This was followed by an excursion to one of the most famous natural notes in South Tyrol-the view of the three battlements , a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Toblacher See and Misurina See also impressed with their natural beauty.
Relaxation in the wellness hotel
On Thursday there was time for free design. The comfortable wellness hotel offered numerous options for relaxation - be it on hikes in the area or when exploring the picturesque landscape. Many used the day for discussions, relaxation or spontaneous activities.
Farewell and outlook
After a breakfast together on Friday, the group started the return journey - with numerous memories and impressions in the luggage. Mayor Ralf Möller and the organization team were pleased with the response: the journey again proved how lively and valuable city twinning can be - not only for official cooperation, but especially in personal cooperation.
