Police operation aims to make life more difficult for burglars – citizens can also take preventative measures
With a targeted operation on Monday evening (March 24), the Griesheim police station, together with officers from the riot police, sent a strong message against burglary. The aim of the operation was to identify perpetrators operating across regions at an early stage and to increase security during the darker months.
Between 4 p.m. and late in the evening, 93 vehicles and 105 people were checked within the city limits. The focus was on mobile and stationary traffic controls. This operation is a response to criminal groups exploiting the well-developed infrastructure of southern Hesse to commit burglaries in the Rhine-Main-Neckar region.
Arrest after hit on wanted list
A 36-year-old man from Messel was arrested on an outstanding warrant for coercion. He avoided imprisonment by immediately paying the fine. Proceedings were initiated against a 15-year-old moped rider who was not speed-limited, for driving without a license. The registered owner of the moped will also face consequences.
In addition, the emergency services recorded five seatbelt violations and several vehicle defects, for which corresponding certificates were issued.
Police call for attention
With these operations, the South Hesse police aim to make the region less attractive to burglars and simultaneously increase the pressure on criminals. These operations are accompanied by preventative events and direct discussions with citizens.
The public can also contribute to safety themselves – for example by:
- attentive behavior in the neighborhood,
- Reporting suspicious observations,
- Technical security measures such as additional locks and motion detectors,
- Consistently closing windows and doors when absent.
