The citizens' foundation invites children aged six to ten to five free lectures
Why can mistakes be real superpowers? How do children administer first aid? And how did life on Earth begin? The new children's lecture series from the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation explores these and other questions. The winter semester begins on Saturday, October 24, 2026, with a total of five events for children aged six to ten. Participation is free, and prior registration is generally not required.
The lectures take place in the Science Palace of the Technical University of Darmstadt. The series is supported by the Sparkasse Darmstadt and Dieburg savings bank and the TU Darmstadt. The aim is to awaken curiosity in the young participants and to introduce them to new topics in a clear and engaging way.
Exciting topics for young explorers
The children's lectures offer a mix of science, everyday knowledge, and exciting insights into different areas of life. It's not just about listening: many experiments allow children to actively participate and immediately try out what they've learned.
The series kicks off on October 24th with the lecture "Why Mistakes Are Superpowers." It deals with a topic that children are familiar with from their everyday lives: mistakes are part of learning and can help develop new skills.
On November 7th, the focus will be on first aid. Under the title "Children helping children," young visitors will learn more about a topic that can also be important for them in everyday life.
From police work to Earth's history
On November 21st, the children will gain insight into the work of the police. They will learn about a profession that plays an important role in maintaining safety and order in everyday life.
A journey through the city's history follows on December 5th. The lecture "Darmstadt Then and Now: From Settlement to Metropolis" deals with the development of Darmstadt and the changes the city has experienced throughout its history.
The winter semester concludes on December 12th with the question "How did life on Earth originate?". The series thus addresses a fundamental topic in the natural sciences.
Lectures at the Science Castle
All five events begin at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and each lasts approximately 90 minutes. The venue is lecture hall 30 in building S3|13 of the Science Palace at TU Darmstadt.
The civic foundation aims to provide children with age-appropriate access to scientific and social topics through this series. The lectures combine clear explanations with experiments and hands-on activities.
According to the civic foundation, registration is generally not required. Admission to all events is free.
