The Onomatopoetikon Choir of the Mozart Society Darmstadt combines poetry and jazz in two concerts in Dieburg and Eberstadt
Under the title "In love with Shakespeare – Poetry meets Jazz," the mixed choir Onomatopoetikon of the Mozart Society Darmstadt invites you to two concerts. The performances will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Dieburg and on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in Darmstadt-Eberstadt. Admission is free for both concerts.
Under the musical direction of Danilo Tepša, the choir combines texts by the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare with compositions by various contemporary and classical choral composers. The focus is on the interplay of spoken word, vocals, and jazz-influenced instrumental music.
Shakespearean texts in musical interpretation
The concert program brings together works by Bob Chilcott, Håkan Parkman, John Purifoy, John Rutter, George Shearing, and Nancy Wertsch. These composers have explored the connection between literature and music in diverse ways.
Shakespeare's texts form the basis for a varied program that combines poetic language with diverse musical forms of expression. Alongside classical choral sounds, elements of jazz play an important role.
Choir and jazz trio will perform the program
The choir is accompanied by three instrumentalists: Andreas Karthäuser on piano, Manuel Christ on bass and Fabian Dührssen on drums.
Together with the choir, they create a concert evening where singing, rhythm and instrumental music come together.
Danilo Tepša will be in charge of the overall musical direction.
Two performances with free admission
The concert will be performed on two consecutive days in Dieburg and Darmstadt-Eberstadt. Admission is free. Donation baskets will be available at the exit. Voluntary contributions will benefit the choir's future work.
