Police, schools and support services provide information about internet abuse
Groß-Gerau District – As part of the prevention campaign "Break Your Silence – Behind Every Abuse There's a Face," the Hessian police, in cooperation with schools and support services, organized a film week on the topic of online sexual abuse . A total of 266 students "Trapped in the Net" at the end of June and beginning of July .
The film, adapted for educational purposes by the Berlin-based film distribution agency Filmwelt, vividly illustrates how quickly young people can find themselves in risky and dangerous situations while chatting online. Three adult actresses pose online as twelve-year-old girls – the film documents how quickly they are contacted by adult men and how these interactions escalate.
Film as a starting point for intensive discussion
Each film screening was followed by a detailed question-and-answer session in the cinema . Police officers, school representatives, and professionals from counseling centers were available to answer the young people's personal questions. Topics discussed included:
- Who to contact if you have a suspicion
- When does content become illegal?
- How those affected are protected and supported
The event aimed to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of the internet , to empower them, and to show them possible courses of action. The program was received very positively by the participating schools and students.
