The STADTRADELN campaign starts on May 17th / Mayor Krebs-Wetzl: "Together, we're setting an example for sustainable mobility"
From May 17 to June 6, 2025, the city of Griesheim will once again participate in the international STADTRADELN of the Climate Alliance. All residents of Griesheim, as well as people who work, go to school, or belong to a club in the city, are invited to cycle as many kilometers as possible during the 21-day campaign period – for both work and leisure. Registration is now open at www.stadtradeln.de/griesheim .
Participants can join an existing team or create their own. The goal is to switch to cycling and thus make an active contribution to climate protection. Even city council members and representatives are taking part.
Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl emphasizes:
“The City Cycling campaign is not just about competition and exercise, but also about conscious mobility. I am delighted by everyone who participates. Let's all leave the car at home more often for three weeks – for a better climate and a higher quality of life.”
Municipal competition and climate balance
Griesheim is once again competing this year against other municipalities in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. The initiative is being coordinated statewide and scientifically monitored. The background to this is the significant contribution of transportation to the CO₂ balance: around a quarter of inner-city emissions are attributable to car traffic. Experts say that if just one-third of all short trips of up to six kilometers were made by bicycle, up to 7.5 million tons of CO₂ could be avoided.
Citizen participation with RADar!
In addition to cycling, citizens can use the RADar! provide feedback on cycling infrastructure in Griesheim. This information is directly incorporated into municipal transport planning.
