Over 40,000 kilometers cycled and 7 tons of CO₂ saved / Large participation from school and club
For the eighth time, the town of Reinheim participated in the City Cycling campaign this year – and significantly surpassed its result from the previous year. From May 17th to June 6th, 2025, 184 registered cyclists in 14 teams collectively cycled 40,404 kilometers, sending a clear message in support of climate protection and sustainable mobility. According to official calculations, the CO₂ emissions saved amount to approximately seven tons.
The City Cycling campaign is a nationwide initiative that encourages participants to cover as many everyday journeys as possible by bicycle within 21 days – whether it's commuting to work, school, or shopping. Every kilometer counts, especially when it replaces a car trip.
Cycling clubs, schools and associations are particularly active
Particularly committed to the project in Reinheim were the Reinheim Cycling Club, the Dr. Kurt Schumacher School, and the "KSG Cyclists" team. The city administration also praised the dedication of numerous citizens who actively promoted the project in clubs and educational institutions.
Mayor Manuel Feick emphasizes the importance of the project: "I am always delighted to see how many active citizens participate in the annual city cycling event – thank you very much for that." The great response is a positive sign for the increasing importance of cycling in urban development.
With the City Cycling campaign, Reinheim aims not only to strengthen environmental protection but also to contribute to improving its own cycling infrastructure. The collected data and feedback will serve, among other things, as a basis for future measures to promote cycling.
