Project “Climate-friendly Riedstadt” receives award from the Climate Alliance / New newsletter launched
Climate Star Award 2025 on May 8th . This European award is presented by the Climate Alliance, the largest network of cities for municipal climate protection in Europe. Riedstadt impressed the jury with its project packages "Climate-Friendly Riedstadt" and "Climate-Friendly Renovation in Riedstadt" .
Sandra Seum and renovation manager Benjamin Krick accepted the award at a ceremony in Wiener Neustadt . Riedstadt is thus among the 16 award-winning cities from eight European countries recognized in the eleventh Climate Star competition.
Citizen participation as a successful model
“We are delighted to receive the award because it is a wonderful recognition of our work and will hopefully encourage even more citizens to get involved,” said Sandra Seum. Mayor Marcus Kretschmann emphasized the local approach: “Climate protection is not something abstract for us. We make it concrete, for example through workshops, advisory services, and tax incentives in designated urban renewal areas.”
Restructuring manager Krick added: “Riedstadt turns mandatory tasks into a creative opportunity for genuine climate protection with citizen participation – that is exactly what convinced the jury.”
The newsletter “Werkstattbrief” provides monthly information
As a further initiative, the city is now launching the "Workshop Letter ," a monthly newsletter about climate protection and climate adaptation . It provides information about projects, events, and funding opportunities. Those interested can subscribe at b.krick@newsletter.klimafreundliches-riedstadt.de .
