New modal filters are intended to increase traffic safety between Maria-Theresia-Straße and St.-Stephans-Platz
As the city of Griesheim announces, starting Tuesday, October 14, 2025 , the Südring (southern ring road) between Maria-Theresia-Straße and St.-Stephans-Platz closed to cars. The aim of this measure is traffic safety in this area. The public order office had already informed residents in writing beforehand.
Modal filters separate traffic flows
The ban on private motorized traffic will be implemented using so-called modal filters . These include posts, traffic cones, and road markings, which will be installed by the city's maintenance department . The necessary ground sockets have already been prepared.
Reason for the measure: Safety for all road users
Until now, through traffic on the southern ring road was only permitted for residents and those with property rights . Nevertheless, the city registered a significantly increased volume of traffic , as by measurements and checks carried out by the city police . In most cases, the section of road was being used illegally by motorists , even though through traffic was prohibited.
