Creative upcycling for children aged 4 to 10 – participation is free and no registration is required
During the summer holidays, the "Kaufhaus der Gelegenheiten" (KAGEL), a department store run by the Darmstadt Municipal Services and Enterprise (EAD), invites children to a free craft program. Over four weekends, children aged four to ten can get creative and do something for the environment at the same time .
Crafting with corks, porcelain and flower pots
Fridays and Saturdays starting at 11 a.m. on the following dates :
- July 11th/12th
- July 18/19
- July 25/26
- August 1st/2nd
The four-hour crafting session takes place on-site at KAGEL, located at Pallaswiesenstraße 122. Registration is not required, however, a parent or guardian, or an adult chaperone, must be present .
What they make is entirely up to the children: KAGEL provides a wide variety of materials from its stock of secondhand goods . For example, they can picture frames with corks , paint porcelain , or personalize flower pots .
Teaching sustainability in a playful way
“As part of the craft program at KAGEL, old but still usable items are upgraded and can thus be reused. The second-hand store not only offers children a meaningful way to spend their free time, but also makes a contribution to sustainability,” explains City Treasurer André Schellenberg .
