Creative upcycling for children aged 4 to 10 – participation is free and no registration is required
During the summer holidays, the "Kaufhaus der Gelegenheiten" (KAGEL), a department store run by the Darmstadt Municipal Services and Enterprise (EAD), invites children to a free craft program. Over four weekends, children aged four to ten can get creative and do something for the environment at the same time.
Crafting with corks, porcelain and flower pots
on the following dates Fridays and Saturdays starting at 11 a.m. :
- July 11th/12th
- July 18/19
- July 25/26
- August 1st/2nd
The four-hour crafting session takes place on-site at KAGEL, located at Pallaswiesenstraße 122. Registration is not required, however, a parent or guardian, or an adult chaperone, must be present.
What they make is entirely up to the children: KAGEL provides a wide variety of materials from its stock of secondhand goods . For example, they can picture frames with corks, paint porcelain , or personalize flower pots .
Teaching sustainability in a playful way
“As part of the craft program at KAGEL, old but still usable items are upgraded and can thus be reused. The second-hand store not only offers children a meaningful way to spend their free time, but also makes a contribution to sustainability,” explains City Treasurer André Schellenberg.
