Children and teenagers create their own canvases during the autumn holidays
The Goddelau youth center was especially colorful during the first week of the school holidays: children and teenagers participated in a three-day creative workshop where they designed their own canvases. Under the guidance of youth worker Kai Faßnacht and vocational school student Alina, they created individual works of art with self-made frames and creative painting techniques.
Patience before the first application of paint
Before the paint could be applied to the canvas, patience and planning required. At long worktables, the participants carefully arranged their paper stencils on primed canvases. They had to consider the order in which which areas should be covered to achieve the desired color effect.
Following the success of last year's holiday program "On the Trail of Art," Faßnacht again offered a three-day creative workshop . While in October 2024 the focus was on creating artworks in the Cubist style, this time the emphasis was on original creations using self-designed stencils .
Craftsmanship and creativity in the team
On the first day, the children and teenagers built their own canvas frames , using saws, hammers, and staplers, and then stretched fabric over the frames. On the second day, they applied the primer, before everyone chose a motif and cut out suitable stencils.
On the last day, colorful works of art finally emerged: Melissa (12) worked on a neon-yellow face, Sina (13) painted her cow with pink spots on its forehead, and Giuliano (10) patiently dabbed the red background for his cat picture with a foam brush. Others used spray paint , although the wind occasionally blew away a stencil.
Whether it was dotting, painting or spraying – in the end, every participant was able to take home an individual work of art.
