Cyclists should use cycle streets from October 5th to 17th
From Monday, October 5th, through Saturday, October 17th, the markings of the cycle lanes on Frankfurter Landstraße in Arheilgen will be adjusted. Disruptions are to be expected during the work. Cyclists are asked to use the cycle streets "Im Erlich" and "Vor der Schreiberpforte" as alternatives.
The reason for the work is that, according to the city, the existing cycle lanes no longer meet current technical requirements. Therefore, the existing markings will be removed along a length of approximately 640 meters and then reapplied at a distance of 0.75 meters from the curb.
More distance to parked vehicles
The increased distance to the curb is intended to reduce the so-called "dooring" hazard. This refers to accidents in which cyclists collide with suddenly opened car doors.
Following the new markings, the roadway along the tram line will remain 2.25 meters wide. Motor vehicles can no longer overtake cyclists there while maintaining the legally required minimum distance of 1.50 meters.
Therefore, an overtaking ban for single-track vehicles will be implemented in the sections between Virchowstrasse and Dürerstrasse, as well as in the area of Holbeinstrasse. The Mobility and Civil Engineering Office is implementing these changes in response to the 2021 amendment to the administrative regulations governing road traffic.
