Rally commemorates the victims three years after the Hamas attack – installation begins in the afternoon
Three years after the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, a memorial event will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Peace Square in Darmstadt. The event is organized by the Darmstadt branch of the German-Israeli Society together with several Darmstadt organizations and institutions.
The event begins at 2 p.m. with an installation and an introduction. The main rally follows at 6:30 p.m. According to the organizers, it will be dedicated to commemorating the victims and to the fight against antisemitism and terrorism.
In the attack by Hamas and other armed groups on Israel on October 7, 2023, approximately 1,200 people were killed and 251 people were taken hostage to the Gaza Strip. Federal Government
Hanno Benz assumes patronage
Mayor Hanno Benz has assumed patronage of the Darmstadt event. Speeches at the rally are scheduled from Benz, Ulrike Schmidt-Hesse, Protestant chairwoman of the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation in Darmstadt, Anika Schmütz from the Young Forum of the German-Israeli Society, and Daniel Neumann. Neumann is the state chairman of the Jewish communities in Hesse and chairman of the Jewish community in Darmstadt.
The commemoration is organized by the German-Israeli Society – Darmstadt Working Group together with the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation Darmstadt, the Stolpersteine Darmstadt Working Group, the City of Darmstadt, the Friends of the Liberal Synagogue Darmstadt, the Young Forum Darmstadt and the Jewish Community of Darmstadt.
The City of Darmstadt had already commemorated the terrorist attack of October 7th in previous years with events and public gestures, expressing its solidarity with the Israeli population and Darmstadt's Israeli twin city, Nahariya. City of Darmstadt
