Sixth home win in a row – Maglica heads in the late winner for Lilies
The Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor remains a fortress: SV Darmstadt 98 defeated Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-1 (1-1) on matchday 23, celebrating their sixth consecutive home win. With 45 points, the Lilies underlined their strong season performance in front of their home crowd.
The visitors initially got off to a slightly more active start, but the South Hessians were clinical. After a long ball, Isac Lidberg held his own strongly, laid the ball off to Marco Richter, whose precise cross was headed home by Fraser Hornby to give his team an early lead (7'). However, Düsseldorf's response was swift: after a corner, de Wijs headed home to level the score at 1-1 (12').
The game continued to be intense and fast-paced on both sides. Shortly before halftime, Marcel Schuhen prevented his team from falling behind with some excellent saves against Appelkamp and Itten.
In the second half, both teams continued to push forward. Niklas Schmidt fired a bicycle kick over the bar (59th minute), while Darmstadt initially lacked precision in their attacks. In the closing stages, Darmstadt gradually took control. The decisive goal finally came three minutes from time: after a corner from Richter, Matej Maglica rose highest and headed home the winning goal for a 2-1 victory (88th minute).
