Darmstadt 98 loses last game of the season 0-2 – Fabian Holland receives an emotional farewell
SV Darmstadt 98 ended their 2025/26 season with a 0-2 defeat against SC Paderborn. Despite numerous chances, the Lilies were beaten in their final match at the Böllenfalltor stadium and finished the season in fifth place with 52 points. After the final whistle, the focus was primarily on the emotional farewell to club legend Fabian Holland.
Darmstadt started the match energetically and could have taken an early lead. However, Isac Lidberg's shot only hit the inside of the post after just four minutes. The visitors from Paderborn, on the other hand, were clinical and took a 1-0 lead shortly afterwards through Marino.
Darmstadt's advantage in chances is not enough
The game remained evenly matched as the match progressed, with Darmstadt coming close to equalizing on several occasions, especially before halftime. Lidberg narrowly missed a cross, and shortly afterwards Marco Richter's powerful shot from a tight angle was saved by the Paderborn goalkeeper.
Even after the break, the team from southern Hesse pressed for the equalizer but failed to capitalize on their chances. Paderborn even missed a penalty when Bilbija's shot hit the crossbar. Shortly before the final whistle, the visitors ruthlessly exploited a Darmstadt mistake, with Michel scoring to make it 2-0.
After the final whistle, however, the sporting aspect faded into the background. The fans bid farewell to Fabian Holland in his last match wearing the SV Darmstadt 98 jersey with prolonged applause and emotional scenes at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor.
