SV Darmstadt 98 won the Southwest derby against Karlsruher SC 3-0, securing their second consecutive home victory. In a match with few dangerous attacking opportunities for either side, Darmstadt proved more determined and efficient overall.
Early lead for Darmstadt
The opening phase was marked by uncertainty in midfield. Both teams committed simple turnovers, resulting in a lack of flow to the game. In the 6th minute, Darmstadt were fortunate when the crossbar prevented an early deficit. Just four minutes later, the Lilies responded: A Darmstadt shot initially hit the crossbar, but top scorer Isac Lidberg was perfectly positioned to tap in the rebound for a 1-0 lead.
As the first half progressed, Darmstadt had more possession but failed to create any clear-cut chances. KSC struggled to find their rhythm and remained largely harmless in attack. The atmosphere in the stadium was briefly interrupted in the 25th minute when someone collapsed in block S1. However, after a few minutes, the situation was resolved – the person was feeling better.
Darmstadt is pressing, but KSC remains in the game
After the break, Darmstadt increased the pressure. In the 52nd minute, a shot from a promising position narrowly missed the target. Seven minutes later, Fraser Hornby, who had returned cleverly to the game after a short injury break, initiated a promising attack and set up Lidberg, but the KSC goalkeeper reacted strongly and prevented the second goal.
Karlsruhe also began to pose a more dangerous threat in front of the Darmstadt goal. In the 65th minute, Marcel Schuhen made a crucial save to deny the visitors a dangerous shot and preserve the lead. Three minutes later, Lidberg narrowly missed making it 2-0 with a powerful long-range effort.
Corredor and Papella make the victory perfect
In the 72nd minute, it finally happened: Corredor took his chance and placed a precise shot into the far corner – 2-0 for Darmstadt. That effectively decided the match.
Darmstadt didn't let up and sealed the victory in the 81st minute. After a lightning-fast counter-attack, Corredor selflessly laid the ball off to Papela, who hammered it into the left corner. The stadium was already celebrating the well-deserved win. It almost became even more emphatic, but Lidberg was denied by the Karlsruhe goalkeeper in the 85th minute.
Relief at the Bölle and coach Kohfeldt is already looking forward to KSC next season
With a commanding 3-0 victory, SV Darmstadt 98 secured another home win, giving Karlsruher SC virtually no chance. While the visitors were largely ineffective in attack, Darmstadt 98 capitalized on their opportunities. Coach Florian Kohfeldt's team thus consolidates its position in the middle of the table and gains crucial points to distance itself from the relegation zone. Coach Kohfeldt is already confident of staying in the league: "We're looking forward to playing KSC next season," a statement clearly intended as a compliment.
