Digitization in construction: Pilot phase successfully completed
Since March 1, 2025, the science city of Darmstadt has been offering a completely digital building permit process for all citizens. After a one -year pilot phase, one of the city's most comprehensive administrative procedures is completely digitized. Building applications can now be submitted, processed and approved free of media.
As the city reports, construction documents can be bundled in a digital tree cap and are also available on the construction site with one click. The notices are also transmitted electronically. To facilitate the transition, the building application remains possible in paper form. At the same time, more than 4,000 running meters of files are currently digitized .

In addition to Merck and Evonik, numerous designers have already used the digital process. 60 digital applications have been processed since January 2024 . A quarter of all applications were submitted online in the first few weeks after the official start.
The digital application assistant intuitively leads through the procedure, all relevant data is automatically recorded. If documents are missing, they can easily be submitted. All communication takes place via the digital building portal Hessen , which guarantees uniform and software -independent cooperation between all those involved.
Finally, city councilor Wandrey explains: “The new digital process not only improves efficiency, but also communication. The digital city of Darmstadt is once again an innovation -friendly business location. ”
