Organ meets rock music on February 6th at the Peace Church
The DOOR project invites you to an after-work rock concert at the Friedenskirche (Peace Church) in Darmstadt . For 18 years now, the band has been combining rock classics with the powerful sound of the church organ, making a name for themselves far beyond Darmstadt. The concert starts at 6 pm.
The project was founded in 2007 by Gerhard Schnitzspahn and drummer Thomas Tschur Bernhardt Brand-Hofmeister part of the project since 2013
Rock classics on the church gallery
Rehearsals take place regularly in St. John's Church. There, the musicians tune their instruments to the organ before playing classics of rock history. Their regular repertoire includes, among others, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum, "Samba Pa Ti" by Santana, "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, and "Music" by John Miles. The band deliberately forgoes vocals; instead, wind instruments take the melodic lead.
The ten musicians are between 42 and 80 years old. With the exception of the organ, all instruments are played by two musicians, including bass, drums, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. Communication during the performance often occurs without words, primarily through eye contact.
Music with attitude
Beyond their musical diversity, the band also shares a common message. Songs like Deep Purple's "Child In Time," an anti-war song from 1970, exemplify the project's ambition to use music to send a message of peace. This message is more relevant than ever, especially in today's world.
The concerts attract a cross-generational audience. Often, people who otherwise have no connection to the church also attend the performances. Video projections during the concerts further contribute to making the church space a new experience.
Traveling throughout Germany
Over the past 18 years, the DOOR project's reach has steadily expanded. Appearances at televised church services, Hessian State Festivals, and numerous radio and television interviews have contributed to its nationwide recognition. The band now travels throughout Germany with extensive equipment for its concerts.
Further information about the project and upcoming dates can be found on the official DOOR project website.
