Educational trip of the youth education center provides political relationships and personal perspectives
Under the motto "Eu & You", 17 young people from the Groß-Gerau district traveled to Brussels during the Easter holidays. The educational trip was organized by the youth education center and the district youth promotion and funded by the Office for Integration and the MEP Michael Gahler (MDEP) . The participants aged 17 to 26 - including students, trainees, students and working people - experienced the European Union up close.
The program included a visit to the EU parliamentarium , discussions with an employee from Michael Gahler's member of parliament and a street art tour with a subsequent creative workshop. The group received deep insights into the origin, way of working and challenges of the EU. For many, the personal conversation in the European Parliament was particularly exciting, in which topics such as lobbyism , funding policy and the future of the EU were discussed.
Critical questions were also asked - for example why the European Parliament has two locations in Brussels and Strasbourg . The answer: In addition to political reasons, the concern for financial losses for the affected cities also plays a role.
Another focus of the trip was the topic of happiness in everyday life . As part of a workshop, the group discussed which values are particularly important to them - including equality, nature conservation, security, family and friendship . The connection between EU policy and personal quality of life was actively reflected.
At the end there was still time to discover Brussels as a city with many faces. The young adults returned with new impressions and strengthened European consciousness. Many were enthusiastic: "We learned a lot - about the EU, but also about ourselves."
