State Secretary Daniel Köfer presents certificates after successful qualification
Thirty-six new civic engagement coordinators from eleven Hessian cities and municipalities have successfully completed their training in the statewide qualification program. The certificates were presented by State Secretary Daniel Köfer and Ralph Lorch , Head of Customer Service North at SV SparkassenVersicherung , during a ceremony at the Hessian State Sports Federation headquarters in Frankfurt .
Engagement guides are local contact persons who support citizens in finding suitable voluntary engagement opportunities or in launching their own projects.
Volunteering as a key pillar of social cohesion
State Secretary Köfer expressly praised the participants' commitment:
"The fact that so many people from different municipalities are participating again this year shows that Hesse is a land of volunteerism throughout. Every contribution to the common good enriches our state."
He particularly emphasized that the new guides additional time and energy in further training as part of the state program.

Ralph Lorch also emphasized the importance of volunteering:
"Volunteering makes the difference between living side by side and living together."
SV SparkassenVersicherung is a long-standing partner of the Hessian State Volunteer Agency (LEAH) and supports the Engagement Guide Program with €45,000 .
Engagement guides initiate concrete projects
Volunteer coordinators support, inform, network, and advise people with ideas for volunteer projects. Among other things, they initiate programs such as "grandparent mentoring" initiatives , repair cafés , and volunteer forums , which strengthen local volunteer engagement.
Since the program's launch in 2004, approximately 1,000 civic engagement coordinators have been trained in Hesse financial grant of €500 for each qualified individual .
With regard to International Volunteer Day on December 5, 2025, :
“Volunteering strengthens social cohesion and enriches cities and communities. Hesse stands firmly by the side of those who volunteer.”
The Engagement Guide Program is a key component of the Hessian state government's promotion of voluntary work and is implemented by the Hessian State Volunteer Agency (LEAH) in cooperation with LAGFA Hessen eV .
