ENTEGA donates two amounts of €1,000 to social institutions in the Groß-Gerau district
For many years, the green energy and telecommunications provider ENTEGA has donated to charitable organizations and associations in the region at the beginning of each year. The company continues this tradition this year, donating a total of €12,000 to the districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg, Offenbach, Groß-Gerau, Bergstraße, Odenwald, and the city of Darmstadt. €2,000 of the total amount will go to the district of Groß-Gerau.
At the handover ceremony on January 27th at the district administration office, District Administrator Thomas Will praised ENTEGA's initiative to use money previously spent on Christmas cards for social projects. He selected the recipients of the donation together with the Social Security Department of the district administration.
This time, the Büttelborn Generations Support Association (Generationenhilfe Büttelborn e.V.) received €1,000. Managing Director Dieter Maurer and Hans-Peter Maurer, project manager at Worfelden Elementary School, were present to accept the award. Dieter Maurer briefly introduced the association. Since multigenerational families whose members support each other are becoming increasingly rare, it's often difficult to find someone to help with small, everyday tasks. The Büttelborn Generations Support Association aims to fill this gap. "We address all age groups," said Dieter Maurer. The meetings and events always focus on fostering social cohesion.
The small-scale assistance offered includes accompaniment services, shopping, a mothers' café, a community garden, surrogate grandparents, and reading mentorships for schoolchildren. The mentoring program is currently available in Klein-Gerau and Worfelden and is slated for expansion. The intergenerational support organization, which has been operating for 15 years, plans to use the donation for this purpose. "Helping like good neighbors – with fun and joy in being together" is the motto of the association, which is always looking for additional volunteers.
Another 1,000 euros will go to the association "Wegwarte – Ambulanter Hospiz- und Palliativdienst Ried eV" (Wegwarte – Ried Outpatient Hospice and Palliative Care Service). The association is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary. Tina Lorenz, full-time coordinator and palliative care nurse, came to the donation handover with Wegwarte treasurer Monika Gölzenleuchter. She described the association's catchment area, which extends from Gernsheim to Groß-Gerau/Büttelborn, and the tasks of the caregivers.
The volunteer members of the association help people on their final journey. "We accompany those with life-threatening illnesses – from diagnosis to their last breath," said Tina Lorenz. The volunteers are also there for the relatives. They visit people at home, as well as in nursing homes, and address each individual situation. Around 30 volunteers in the association dedicate their time to this. The donation will likely be used for bereavement support services.
All the recipients of the donations expressed their gratitude for being considered by ENTEGA and for their work being seen and recognized. Matthias W. Send, authorized signatory and Head of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs at ENTEGA, said: “It is of great importance to society that people are involved in social projects and associations. As a company rooted in the region, it is part of our core values to support such initiatives with our donations.” District Administrator Thomas Will also expressed his gratitude on behalf of the recipients: “ENTEGA’s contribution helps these initiatives to move forward with their projects.”
