Nature and relaxation in the Pfungstadt Moor - recommended by the Working Group Seniors -friendly district of Bergstrasse
The working group "Senior -friendly district of Bergstrasse" presents a recommended destination for older people and their relatives every month. Erlensee near Bickenbach was selected for June - a natural recreation area with a protected bird world and barrier -friendly infrastructure.
The Erlensee was created in the 1960s as part of the motorway construction as a gravel pit and was later renatured. Today he is part of the Pfungstädter Moor nature reserve and a popular destination for walkers. The island in the middle of the lake serves many bird species as a breeding ground, and the neighboring Moorsee, around 500 meters away, invites you to explore.
Walk path, benches and kiosk with beer garden
A 2.5 kilometer circular route leads through the idyllic surroundings of the Erlensee and is also suitable for people with restricted mobility. Numerous benches along the way and a kiosk with beer garden - operated by the Bickenbach 66 e. V. - invite you to linger.
The journey is easily possible by car and bike. A paid parking lot is located directly on the lake.
An overview of all the excursion destinations tested so far can be found on the website of the Bergstrasse district senior advisory board :
