Zoo educator Dr. Frank Velte will explain the significance of animal colors on June 5th
Why are some animals colorful while others are a single color? Why do males and females often differ in their coloration? And what role do colors play in the animal kingdom? These questions will be the focus of an evening tour at the Vivarium Zoo on Thursday, June 5, 2025 , at 8 p.m.
Dr. Frank Velte, a research associate and zoo educator, takes participants on an exciting tour through the Darmstadt Zoo. He explains how animal colors develop, what biological functions they serve, and what differences exist between species and sexes – from camouflage and warning signals to mate selection.

The meeting point is at the entrance of the Darmstadt Zoo Vivarium , Schnampelweg 5. Participation is subject to regular admission prices. Due to limited space, registration is required by calling 06151–13 46900
