IG Metall Darmstadt presents traveling exhibition at the DGB House – opening on November 6th with lecture and discussion
Darmstadt. From November 6, 2025, the traveling exhibition "I knew what I was doing" on display at the DGB House in Darmstadt early resistance against the Nazi movement in the Weimar Republic and the first years of the Nazi dictatorship – a topic that is highly relevant in light of current authoritarian tendencies.
The exhibition is presented by IG Metall Darmstadt in cooperation with the Study Group German Resistance 1933–1945 and the Darmstadt History Workshop .

The organizers cordially invite you
to the grand opening on Thursday, November 6th, at 6 p.m. Exhibition curators Ulrike Obermayr and Bernhard Schütz from the German Resistance Study Group will introduce the exhibition with a presentation, providing insights into its creation, content, and significance. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for discussion and exchange about civic courage and democratic engagement.
Courage, attitude and resistance
on 18 large-format panels , illustrates how people resisted authoritarian developments early on – often at great personal risk.
Two interactive media stations focus on the topics of the United Front and trade unions short biographies of courageous resistance fighters and supplementary panels highlight the activities of Darmstadt citizens who opposed the Nazi regime.

- November 12th: Panel discussion “Women and men of the first hour”
- November 20th: Film screening of "The Edelweiss Pirates" followed by discussion
- November 25th: Music evening “Resistance through art and music”
- December 13th: City tour “Biographical Explorations”
- December 16th: Closing event “Early warning – What does resistance mean today?”
