Children from the Schwarzbach school experience "Reading in special places" with the KiJuPa
Nauheim. As part of the "Reading in Special Places" series organized by the Nauheim library, a special reading event for a third-grade class from the Schwarzbach School took place on October 30, 2025, in the town hall . The event focused on democracy and participation – presented in a child-friendly, interactive, and engaging way.
Discover democracy through play
To begin, the students played a democracy bingo game with symbols related to participation. Afterwards, they viewed a large photo collageactivities of the Children's and Youth Parliament (KiJuPa) . They learned how children can participate in the KiJuPa, implement projects, and even run for office themselves.
The children were particularly curious about questions concerning voting. Then they had the opportunity to get hands-on experience: In groups, they searched for objectsthey associated with the work of the KiJuPa – such as a megaphone, glasses , or a lightbulb. They then presented their selections to the entire class, learning how collective decision-making works.
Reading from "The Parliament of Animals"
A highlight was the reading from the picture book "The Parliament of Animals" by author Sophie Schönberger, presented by Sophia Ahmed, board member of the Children's and Youth Parliament and former participant in the reading competition.
In the story, animals decide to found a parliament to make peaceful and fair decisions for everyone – a topic that the children then enthusiastically discussed.
Cooperation for a living democracy
The event was organized in cooperation between the children's and youth services, the Nauheim Children's and Youth Parliament, and the Nauheim library . The aim was to inspire children at an early age for democracy, participation, and collective action – in keeping with the idea: "Have your say, help shape the future, and participate in decision-making."
