Additional classrooms and a new cafeteria strengthen the educational concept
As the city of Darmstadt announced, extension to the Heinrich Heine School in Bessungen was officially inaugurated on Wednesday (12th) André Schellenberg and Head of Schools Holger Klötzner handed over the building to the school community after the completion of construction.
The Heinrich Heine School was opened in 2008 as a two-stream primary school. Due to increased student numbers and demographic changes, an extension became necessary to allow for expansion to a three-stream school and to meet the current demand for primary school places. The new building structurally and aesthetically continues the northwest wing of the existing building.
New rooms, modern facilities and a central cafeteria
The extension includes additional classrooms , a group room , restrooms , storage rooms , and a technical room . The ground floor houses a cafeteria with 80 seats and a warming kitchen . A new fire safety concept implemented.
City treasurer Schellenberg emphasizes:
“The new extension building blends seamlessly with the existing building and completes the school complex. With the outdoor facilities also being adapted, the entire building can function as a modern school building.”
Education officer Klötzner adds:
“The additional space was urgently needed so that the school could continue its educational concept. The cafeteria is a central component of this, as it combines food provision, social interaction and all-day activities.”
The project management and construction management were the real estate management department of the city of Darmstadt .
