Messages from Darmstadt and the surrounding area around New Year's Eve
The last days of 2024 and the start of the new year were shaped by various incidents in Darmstadt and the surrounding area. From fires to burglaries to property damage caused by fireworks - the police and rescue workers had their hands full. Here is a selection of events:
Keller fire in Darmstadt-Kranichstein on December 30th
On Monday evening (December 30th) there was a basement fire in an apartment building in Wickopweg, Darmstadt-Kranichstein at 8:27 p.m. The fire broke out for an unknown cause and caused a strong smoke development. 25 residents were examined for possible flue gas poisoning on site, two of them had to go to the hospital for further clarification. An apartment became uninhabitable by the fire, the remaining residents were able to return to their apartments. The damage incurred is estimated at at least 150,000 euros. Emergency services from the Darmstadt professional fire brigade, the volunteer fire brigades from Arheilgen and the city center as well as ambulance and an emergency doctor were on site. The investigation takes over the specialist commissioner 10 of the Darmstadt-Dieburg police department.
Balcony fire in Bartningstrasse on New Year's Eve
In Darmstadt-Kranichstein, a balcony on Bartningstrasse caught fire on New Year's Eve at 0:15 a.m. The flames at times threatened to attack the associated apartment on the third floor. Thanks to the quick intervention by the Darmstadt professional fire brigade, the fire was deleted until 0:45 a.m. The property damage is estimated at around 30,000 euros.
Objective damage caused by fireworks in Bessunger Straße
On the night of January 1st, a cigarette machine in Bessunger Strasse was violently opened through a fireworks. The previously unknown perpetrators stole the contents of the machine and also damaged a parked car by the explosion. Witnesses watched three about 20-year-old men dressed darkly and fled with hats towards Moltkestrasse. The police accept information about the perpetrators.
Burglary in the Kirschenallee
Between December 26 and January 1, unknown perpetrators gained access to a row house in Kirschenallee in Darmstadt-Nord. They violently opened the patio door and searched the rooms for valuables. The burglars escaped with jewelry, cash and electrical appliances. Witnesses are asked to report observations to the Commissioner 21/22 in Darmstadt.
