Appointments can be booked by phone or via the EAD customer portal
To kick off the gardening season, the municipal services department of the city of Darmstadt (EAD) will once again offer its free collection of green waste from Darmstadt private households from Monday, March 10th, to Monday, April 28th inclusive.
Those interested are requested to arrange a collection appointment by telephone on 06151 13-46000 or online via the EAD customer portal www.portal.ead.darmstadt.de .
The EAD recommends booking appointments early, as the above-mentioned period includes an Easter break. Please note the following points before collection:
- Please bundle shrubs and branches up to ten centimeters in diameter and two meters in length with twine and place them in paper bags or cardboard boxes with the rest of the loose green waste by 6 a.m. on the agreed collection day.
- Please refrain from using plastic bags and containers with wire or plastic twine, as these cannot be removed at the composting facility.
Larger paper bags suitable for loose green waste are sold at the EAD recycling center for €0.70 each. Opening hours are: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents can also purchase 70-liter bags for collection at the Eberstadt and Wixhausen district offices, as well as in the city foyer of the New Town Hall on Luisenplatz. As before, for reasons of time and occupational safety, the bags and other green waste will only be collected by the EAD (Essen Waste Management Authority) during scheduled garden waste collections – not during the organic waste bin collections.
Wood pieces and rootstocks with a diameter of over ten centimeters are collected separately, as they can damage the pressing mechanism of the EAD collection vehicles. This large wood – like all other compostable waste from Darmstadt households – can be dropped off free of charge at the composting facility at Eckhardwiesenstraße 25. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
