Around 300 people send a clear message against Reichsbürger ideology
Around 300 citizens in Weiterstadt made a visible statement in support of democracy, diversity, and social cohesion on Sunday. The demonstration was prompted by a last-minute meeting of the so-called Reichsbürger group "Blaulicht Familie" (Blue Light Family) near the media ship.
"We in Weiterstadt – For Human Dignity & Diversity" had called for the counter-demonstration . The participants deliberately remained quiet – there were no speeches or loudspeaker announcements. Instead, the focus was on their silent yet powerful presence. The highlight was the release of colorful balloons, symbolically representing openness and diversity.
Strong words against extremism
The counter-demonstration was prompted by an action from the Reichsbürger movement, which gathered in front of the Weiterstadt prison. Michael Fritsch , a prominent figure in the movement, is currently in pretrial detention there. He is alleged to have maintained contacts with the suspected terrorist group around Heinrich XIII, Prince Reuss, and to have openly opposed the free and democratic order.
Mayor Ralf Möller spoke clearly:
“Our answer to this is clear – and it is peaceful, determined and unambiguous: Weiterstadt stands for democracy. Weiterstadt stands for the rule of law. And Weiterstadt will not tolerate any place for conspiracy ideologies and Reichsbürger propaganda.”
While only around 20 people gathered on the side of the Reichsbürger movement, the overwhelming majority demonstrated for the rule of law, human dignity and peaceful coexistence.
The alliance “We in Weiterstadt – For Human Dignity & Diversity” thanked all participants for their presence and peaceful commitment.
