The city and the Schwarzbach Association are asking parents for their support in preventing hazards
The town of Weiterstadt and the Schwarzbach Association are warning of the dangers posed by repeated digging under the so-called "Blue Bridge" in Schneppenhausen. In recent weeks, children have been observed digging with shovels in the riverbank area at the playground near the old waterworks – with potential consequences for the bridge's stability.
The bridge spans a small stream whose water level can rise rapidly during heavy rain. The loosening of the soil poses a risk of scouring , i.e., erosion of the bridge foundations , which could compromise its long-term stability.
“We don’t want to be killjoys, but safety comes first,” explains Weiterstadt’s mayor , Ralf Möller . A planned riprap for bank stabilization can only be implemented once it’s been ruled out that children will use the stones as building material and that digging will be further encouraged.
The city is therefore making an urgent appeal to parents and guardians to educate their children about the dangers and to prevent such activities.
