Students gain insights into various professions
The district town of Groß-Gerau is participating in this year's Girls' and Boys' Day, offering students the opportunity to explore new career fields. The event will take place on Thursday, April 23, 2026, and is aimed at young people aged ten to fifteen, starting from the fifth grade.
The nationwide day of action aims to encourage young people to consider so-called gender-atypical professions when choosing a career. The background to this is that many young people still choose their training based on traditional gender roles.
Insights into technology, administration, and social professions
The city of Groß-Gerau offers a total of 14 placements for female students in various departments of the city administration. These include, among others, IT, the municipal works department, the wastewater treatment plant, the city library, the field service of the public order office, and the electrical installation department of the municipal utilities. Opportunities to gain insights into the urban planning, road construction, and green space departments are also available.
The participants gain practical insights into the respective activities, can try out initial skills and make contacts with possible training areas.
Boys can learn about work in daycare centers
Places are available for boys in the city's daycare centers. There they can experience the educational work in everyday life and gain initial experience in the field of childcare.
The selected work areas will be visited on the day of action from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Afterwards, all participants will meet at 12:45 p.m. for a joint closing event in the council chamber of the town hall on the market square.
“We want to encourage people to go beyond the often too narrow boundaries when choosing a career and thus open up additional perspectives for girls and boys,” explains the women’s and equal opportunities officer Kerstin Kalweit.
