Weiterstadt is consolidating administrative services and expanding online offerings
The city office in the Weiterstadt district of Gräfenhausen will remain permanently closed. The city of Weiterstadt announced this decision following a review of its current use and the services it offered. Going forward, administrative services will be more strongly consolidated at the central city office in the town center, and digital services will be further expanded.
A key reason for the decision is the low demand for traditional administrative services at the Gräfenhausen location. According to the city, more than 85 percent of previous interactions involved the collection of yellow recycling bags. These are now also available at the REWE supermarket in Gräfenhausen.
Important services were previously only available in Weiterstadt
Certain administrative services could not be provided at the Gräfenhausen town hall anyway. These included, for example, applications for passports and identity cards. For these and other services, citizens can continue to use the central town hall in Weiterstadt.
By consolidating services at a single location, the city aims to improve administrative processes and utilize existing staff more efficiently. According to the city administration, this consolidation of services should also increase employee safety.
More administrative services should become available online
Alongside the permanent closure of the Gräfenhausen town hall, Weiterstadt plans to further expand its digital administrative services. The goal is to enable more administrative tasks to be completed online in the future, regardless of opening hours.
According to the administration, this is intended to make municipal services more accessible and better aligned with the needs of citizens.
