Griesheim City Library gives away 323 library cards for the start of the school year
At the start of the new school year, 323 first-graders in Griesheim received a voucher for a free library card at the city library. The vouchers were prepared and distributed to the schools with the help of many volunteers.
With a library card, children can access the city library's collection free of charge. More than 14,000 items, including books, CDs, Tonies, games, and digital resources via the Hessen online lending platform.
The city library accompanies children for many years
"Our young audience is brutally honest when it comes to evaluating our media collection," says library director Heike Erb-Schyguda. Therefore, care is taken to ensure that popular themes and series characters are represented, as well as classic resources for promoting reading.
For the team at the city library, the start of the school year is a special time every year. Many families become acquainted with the library for the first time and remain connected to it for years to come. Later, students use the library not only for presentations and homework, but also complete internships there or participate in Boys' Day. In addition, four study spaces are available in the basement.
