High temperatures and drought increase the risk – prudent behavior is required
Groß-Gerau – The ongoing drought and heat are currently increasing the risk of forest fires in Hesse – including in the area around the district town of Groß-Gerau. According to the Hessian Ministry of Forestry, around 90 percent of all forest fires are due to human error. In Hesse alone, more than 65 forest fires recorded since the beginning of the year.
The ) forest fire danger index (WBI ) currently shows high to very high danger levels . The weather patterns of the past few months, with low rainfall in spring, changeable weather in May, and a heat wave in June, have severely dried out the vegetation.
The city appeals for prudent behavior
The city administration of Groß-Gerau is urging residents and visitors to exercise particular caution in and around forests . Open fires and barbecues are strictly prohibited Smoking is also . Even seemingly minor acts of carelessness, such as throwing a cigarette out of a car window, can have serious consequences.

In case of fire or smoke, emergency number 112 immediately . Providing the nearest rescue point (number on green signs) can help emergency services reach the scene more quickly. Smaller fires may be extinguished by the homeowner if it is safe to do so.
The city of Groß-Gerau is calling for help:
