The city and the Protestant University are providing information on health protection in hot weather at Luisenplatz
In light of the ongoing heatwave, the City of Darmstadt and the Protestant University of Applied Sciences will be providing information on specific heat prevention measures at an information booth on Luisenplatz Thursday, July 10, 2025 , from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is aimed at all citizens – especially those with increased health risks.
On-site, the Healthy City Coordination Office , the Office for Climate Protection and Climate Adaptation , and the Early Intervention Network Coordination about the health effects of heat and personal preventative measures. The event is supported by students from the Protestant University of Applied Sciences and coordinated by Professor Alexandra Rau .
Health care and protection from heat
"The climate crisis is becoming increasingly evident in Darmstadt – with a growing number of hot days and tropical nights. With this information booth, we want to clearly demonstrate what the city is already doing to combat heat," explains climate protection officer Michael Kolmer .
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz , responsible for health and social affairs, adds:
“The offer is aimed at everyone, but especially at vulnerable groups such as elderly people, pregnant women or the homeless. We want to encourage preventative healthcare and provide very practical assistance.”
Activities and information at the booth
In addition to specific tips for individual heat prevention , such as staying hydrated or seeking refuge in cool places, the information booth also offers interactive activities for all ages . Those interested can learn about Darmstadt's heat action plan , which outlines numerous municipal measures for adapting to heat waves.
