Kindergarten children chose Alexander Steffensmeier as the winner of the Darmstadt picture book competition
Children's book author Alexander Steffensmeier was awarded the "Heinerchen 2025" . He read from his award-winning work "Lieselotte im Regen" .
Among the guests were the children from the municipal daycare center on Meißnerweg , who presented Steffensmeier with the certificate. Afterwards, they drew the winning tickets for new book bags, which were raffled off to daycare centers.
Children's jury from 28 Darmstadt daycare centers
A total of 28 kindergartens from Darmstadt participated in the competition. Ten selected picture books were read aloud, browsed through, admired, and discussed. In the end, the children decided which book they liked best – the clear choice was "Lieselotte in the Rain" .
Fostering enjoyment of language and literature
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz emphasized the importance of such projects:
"This is a wonderful experience for the children: They stand on stage, are part of a big celebration and can show how important their opinion is. Such experiences strengthen self-confidence, the joy of language and literature – and remain in their memories for a long time."
