Discussion evening at TU Darmstadt on 29 October
Darmstadt. Under the title "Hiroshima and the Responsibility of Science," the Protestant Deanery of Darmstadt , the Darmstadt Peace Forum and PEASEC (Science and Technology for Peace and Security) to a public event in the Old Main Building of TU Darmstadt on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. event begins at 6:00 p.m. in Room S103/123 , Hochschulstraße 1. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
The focus is on the question of the individual responsibility of scientists – both then and now. The occasion is the anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki . Historical and current perspectives on the handling of scientific findings in military contexts will be discussed.

The panel will feature Prof. em. Dr. Franz Fujara (Physics) , Prof. Dr. Christian Reuter (Computer Science), and Dr. Robin Mentel (Physics) Regina Hagen of the Darmstadt Peace Forum will moderate the .
The first part of the event will examine the role and motivation of the researchers involved in the Manhattan Project. The second part will address the current blurring of boundaries between civilian and military research —and the ethical challenges that arise from this.
