Photo-rich memories and readings in October and November – available now in bookstores
Author and cultural journalist W. Christian Schmitt presents his new book , "Homecoming to Darmstadt? My Memories of the City, the People, and the Culture," a work that is both an autobiographical retrospective and a literary exploration. For nearly six decades, Schmitt has documented Darmstadt's cultural development as a journalist. His book gathers personal recollections, cultural-historical portraits, and encounters with writers, cultural figures, and everyday people who have shaped the city.

The chapters include, among other things, retrospectives on the terms of office of Darmstadt's mayors Günther Metzger, Peter Benz, Walter Hoffmann, and Hanno Benz. Numerous contemporaries, such as writers, journalists, and musicians, appear as vivid reminiscences. The text is complemented by approximately 80 photographs and illustrations that visually underscore Schmitt's retrospective.
First reactions to the book
Dr. Fritz Deppert describes it as a "moving book that evokes memories." Dr. Paul-Hermann Gruner believes that even during his professional absences, Schmitt always "had one foot in Darmstadt." And Rainer Beutel, managing editor of WIR, the magazine for the Gerau region , emphasizes the value of the cultural-historical portraits that Schmitt collected over more than 50 years.
