Innovative robotics laboratory opened-research on AI and motor skills
The Technical University of Darmstadt has expanded its research portfolio with the state -of -the -art humanoid robot. He is one of only six worldwide and the only one of its kind in Germany. The 1.75 meter tall and 95 kilogram robot was specially acquired for research on motor skills, artificial intelligence and human-robot interaction.
As the TU Darmstadt reports in a press release, Taslos is used in the newly founded laboratory for humanoid robotics in the field for intelligent autonomous systems under the direction of Professor Jan Peters. Laboratory manager Dr. Oleg Arenz emphasizes:
"Thanks to its versatility, we can explore the interaction of hardware engineering engine control and abstract thinking through artificial intelligence in detail."
Talos can climb stairs, grab objects precisely, walk on uneven terrain and work with human and mechanical colleagues . Half of the acquisition costs of 1.8 million euros were financed by the TU Darmstadt and the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Interdisciplinary research with Talos
In addition to the area of intelligent autonomous systems, other institutes from the university are involved:
- Simulation, system optimization and robotics (Prof. Oskar from Stryk)
- Interactive Robot Perception & Learning (Prof. Georgia Chalvatzaki)
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Lab (Prof. Kristian Kersting)
- Control and cyber-physical system (Prof. Rolf Findeisen)
- Sport biomechanics (Prof. André Seyfarth)
- Psychology of information processing (Prof. Constantin A. Rothkopf)
With this new research platform, the TU Darmstadt another milestone in the development of intelligent and human -like robotics.
