46 graduates honored - further training as a career booster and strengthening the economy
A shortage of skilled workers, digitization and climate targets present companies in South Hesse with major challenges. A solution: higher vocational training. A solemn honor of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Darmstadt shows how targeted further training contributes to securing skilled workers and at the same time promotes individual careers. On March 21, 46 further training graduates were awarded for their services.
With the end of the pocket, many of the honored are already taking on key roles in their companies. The IHK Darmstadt emphasizes that around 200,000 specialists will be missing in Hesse by 2028 alone - not only for operational tasks, but also for demanding activities in process control. IHK Vice President Elfi Broschard praises: "This room is full of top performers who can actively shape economic change-from digitization to climate protection to corporate management."
Continuing education as a career booster
An example of the added value of higher vocational training is Fritz Robin Hammann. The 35-year-old IT specialist has been working at the tire manufacturer Pirelli in Breuberg since his training in 2011. With further training as an IT project manager, he wants to make processes more efficient and develop professionally: "I can use it to develop opportunities for advancement that I might not have without further training."
Christian Dohr from Usingen also opened up professionally through further training as a business economist: from the clerk, he rose to the shopping manager at Canton Elektronik. He particularly benefited from content to leadership. His goals are ambitious: "I can well imagine taking over the commercial management or management."
Completion with perspective
More than 2.5 million people in Germany have a degree in higher vocational training - and the trend is rising. In 2024 alone, the IHK Darmstadt took 1,377 exams. Nevertheless, the potential is not exhausted, says Broshard: "We need more awareness of higher vocational training - also as an equivalent alternative to studying. Pupils should experience early on how practical and successful this way can be."
Numerous disciplines were awarded at the ceremony in Darmstadt, including business economists, specialist, industrial master and IT project manager. The best graduates of their respective specialty were also honored separately.
